Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP)
The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) is funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). AMEP is an Australian education and settlement program for newly arrived migrants and refugees. Central delivers AMEP on behalf of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
AMEP provides basic tuition in the English Language to help eligible adult migrants and refugees settle successfully in Australia.
The program is available to eligible migrants, from the humanitarian, family and skilled visa groups. The number of hours of free English courses offered depends on individual circumstances.
The AMEP teaches more than just English. Students also learn about Australian society, culture and customs. They meet other new migrants, who may have similar experiences and goals, and they make many new friends.
There is no charge for eligible migrants and refugees to study through the program.
Classes are:
- Full time (20 hours per week in the morning or afternoon)
- Part time(less than 20 hours per week in the morning, afternoon, evening or Saturday mornings)
